So if you have stuck with me so far you will know that I’m the type of man that likes his words. I never believed that if you can say it in 20 then why only use 2 words…..

Let me tell you this assignment almost pushed me over the edge.

Assuming I am a socioculturalist, who believes all these multiple factors from my lived history, to the role of society, to the context of the experience, to my values and beliefs and of course the interactions I have with individuals, all impact on my sense making and identity, word count quickly becomes your enemy number one.

  • How am I to capture all this richness of factors?

  • How am I to capture the variety of perspectives?

  • How am I to see and communicate the multiplicity of the situation?

  • How am I to stay true to who I claim to be?

  • What must I sacrifice, omit, delete?

Words everywhere!

The key appears to lie in drafting, re-drafting and –redrafting. Assignment One has been submitted, 244 words over (which for me is on point), having had about 13 iterations and revision and the deletion of about 5000 words. It is as they say in the hands of the marking gods.

I pray they will be kind!

And of course will keep you posted.
