The blank page: every student's fear (well its certainly mine)

This one is going to be brief. While assignment one is in the bag and thus beyond influence from me, a second is due in just one month. The gravity of this workload is beginning to set in.

Working full time (in a role involving considerable travel) while studying part time on a doctoral programme take considerable planning and effort. Carving out reading and writing time on a recurring regular basis (faculty recommend an hour or two a day) has evaded me thus far. I have however managed to carve out some chucks of time, usually at weekend. This of course takes its toll in other areas of life. But no one said this was going to be easy.

This current assignment is focused on two core skills, the literature and methodology. Again I am struggling with the word count. Pulling a meaningful, critical discussion from a snapshot of 10 articles in 1,000 words or less and making a concise evidenced based and grounded methodological choice in less than 2,000 is challenging me.

However challenged, I do feel I am learning. The importance of drafting and redraft is certainly emphasised as is the need for logical structured argument.

I only hope I embed these skills of critical writing and structure and internalise them as the norm going forward. I promise ill start to apply these skills to my blog soon also!

But for now I had better get back to it and get assignment two progressed.
