Stadium of Light October 2018

Waiting to board flight FR172 to Newcastle to attend the first residential teaching block of the University of Sunderland DProf programme, it’s fair to say I was apprehensive and a little self insecure about what lies ahead. Little by way of outline programming content (agenda etc) had been circulated and I ponder what was in store for us over the coming 3 days. The companionship of a previous colleague and now long-term friend ‘CD’ also embarking on the same flight and indeed Doctoral journey is some comfort.

As we journeyed towards Newcastle and onward on the Metro to Sunderland (noting how well connected this part of the world is with public transport), a sense of anticipation and positivity replaced the anxiety of earlier.

By the time we arrived at the University Metro stop we were resolute that yes, this will challenge and yes, this may be tough, but it will be enjoyable and insightful. While the destination and successful completion was critical, perhaps just perhaps, the journey of self-exploration was equally if not more important.
