And just like that, with a brief email containing the words below, year one is declared a success.

"At its meeting on 17th May 2019, the Professional Doctorate Assessment Board considered your module results. I have listed below the results for each module.

  • PDC514 Framing Professional Identity - Pass

  • PDC510 Practice Based Research 1 Part 1 - Pass

  • PDC510 Practice Based Research 1 Part 2 - Pass"

I know its early days and there is a long way to go, but you can not imagine the sense of relief! There is no doubt but the work load and jump from Masters to Doctoral study is a large chasm. There is much talk of doctoralness. I'm still not actually sure what this means, but once I do don't worry Ill share.......What is reassuring is that well so far I seem to be hanging in there.

It's strange too that there is also somewhat of an anticlimax. I don't know if its just me or what but it all seems so...... anti-climatic. Perhaps it's that there is somewhat of a disjoint (or at least a perceived one at this stage of the programme) between the taught and research component. I am somewhat struggling to connect this work to a final product. That said as I work on the next module assignment I begin to see some connection and how some elements grow on the previous. This current one 511 is for all intent and purposes an extended research proposal drawing lessons from previous sections. So patience Denis, patience!
